- Dental and Medical History Review: We’ll discuss your dental and medical background to understand any relevant health conditions or concerns.
- Oral Cancer Exam: We begin with a thorough oral cancer screening. This helps detect any signs of oral cancer or abnormalities.
- Gum Examination (Periodontal Assessment): We assess your gum tissues for color, contours, and texture. Healthy gums appear pink, have a stippled surface, and do not bleed. Signs of periodontal disease (gingivitis or gum inflammation) are noted.
- Teeth Examination and detailed charting of your conditions into an odontogram: Each tooth is examined for stains, chips, cracks, cavities, malformations, excessive wear, and mobility. Existing dental restorations (fillings, crowns, etc.) are also evaluated.
- Digital X-rays (If Necessary): X-rays help detect hidden pathology or decay that cannot be seen visually. Bitewings, periapicals and a Panorex provide detailed information about tooth and bone health.
- Bite Analysis: We assess how your upper and lower teeth fit together during biting and chewing. Proper alignment is crucial for comfort and function.
- Jaw-Joint Examination: We check for any abnormalities or signs of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) issues. TMJ problems can cause discomfort, headaches, or jaw pain.
- Intra-Oral Camera Use: We may use an intra-oral camera to show you any evidence of dental problems or diseases.
- Explanation and Treatment Plan: Based on our findings, we’ll explain any issues and discuss the best treatment approach. Our goal is to achieve optimal comfort, function, health, and esthetics for your entire chewing system.
